Kelcey developed an interest in art in her early childhood. In the
third grade she made a paper mache pig and painted it with large
yellow daisies. From that day forward her life would never be the
same…she began drawing everything! Kelcey’s formal art education
started in high school, where she was chosen to student teach in the
art department. She attended the Art Institute of Florida and
countless continuing education classes throughout the years, most
recently studying with Trish Harding at Studio UFO in Bellingham.
Kelcey has an early artistic background in water colors, with a
passion for charcoal figure drawing and more recently painting with
soft pastels and oil paints; she finds spontaneity and vibrancy with
these mediums lends itself well to her landscapes, still lifes, portraits
and random smatterings of whimsy.
Kelcey won the “Image Award” from the Allied Arts of Whatcom
County 2007 juried competition for the La Bella Strada Festival. The
piece chosen was the image used on all the marketing materials for
the La Bella Strada Festival of 2008. Her work has been accepted in
NW Pastel society juried shows, “Unclad” 2005, 2006, and 2008,
and in “Brushes with the Land” 2006 and 2007. Her work has also
been displayed in countless coffee shops and restaurants in
Bellingham and Edmonds as well as appearing in the Solovei Art
Gallery of Everett and “Gallery by the Bay” in Stanwood. Her work is
in private collections in California, Washington and New Zealand.
