The art of Kelcey Bates is emotional and intuitive,
and its impact is immediate. Her work grows from a
strong connection to people and a passion for life
and its ever-changing drama.
Images, like simple words, can be extremely
powerful. Her paintings are images of few words,
simple words, true words. Like incantations, they
effect the viewer instantly and occasionally
channeling deep emotion.
It is important to Kelcey that work reaches and
communicates with the viewer, creating art is not a
totally solitary experience. When a viewer visits one
her my paintings they bring their own experiences to
it and relate themselves to the paining. This
personalizes the experience for the viewer.
She approaches both life and art head on, full of
vitality. Visual and physical energy to her, is most
powerful where natural elements meet, touch and
overlap.
Kelcey says..."When I run or sail, I just keep
working and every once in a while, I get a run that
makes me feel like I am barely touching the ground,
like I'm gliding, or a sail when the boat, the wind and
the water and I all come together. And there are
those same magical times with art, when you start a
painting and the world melts away, you choose
colors without realizing it and you end up in an
intimate dance between your head, heart, your hand
and the colors...I live for those moments".
Kelcey's art is found in numerous private collections
around the country, Germany and New Zealand.
